Geocache Description:

Everyone knows Winter Hill but who knows Counting Hill? If you look at the skyline of Winter Hill there are actually two bumps and two hills. Counting Hill is the one without the mast on that nobody goes to, its seperated from Winter Hill by a drop (albiet a small one!)

I would love to know how it got its name. It's rather evoctive but sadly seems to be lost in the mists of time. It certainly once had a locally significant meaning as there is also a Counting Hull on nearby Anglezarke Moor.

Its not an a easy place to get to. I came from Horrocks Fold car park and walked up Dean Ditch. This is a side of Winter Hill that sees few visitors. Running up the side of Dean Ditch is a very long and ancient dry stone wall (which the cache is not hidden in!). From up here you do get a different perspective to your standard Winter Hill panorama.

Finaly as Geocaching is centers around numbers then a hill called Counting Hill does seem an appropriate place for a geocache. Ironically its remoteness makes it a poor cache for number baggers!
