Geocaching

At 8:47 A.M. on September 11, 2001 the world tuned in to national coverage reporting that a commercial aircraft had "accidentally" hit Tower I North World Trade Center in New York City.

At 9:02 A.M. the world watched live as a second aircraft flew into Tower II South World Trade Center.

Doubt was removed that the incident was accidental, and America reeled as the realization of international terrorism upon our own soil set in.

As the world watched the live coverage of the firefighting and rescue efforts occurring at World Trade Center Plaza, the unthinkable happened.

Tower II collapsed, followed shortly thereafter by Tower I. These moments were forever scarred in the minds of those that watched the attack on America reach its apex.

While the morning of September 11, 2001 is transiently engraved upon our fleeting memories, there are those that sought to make our local losses an engraving that would withstand the passage of time. One such patriotic effort was offered by the Quintal Brothers, a renowned family of North Plymouth. This incredible black marble display appears at the Quintal Brothers Market at 1 South Spooner Street in Plymouth, Massachusetts. This memorial should not be missed.

In order to log this virtual cache, you must:

1.) Take and upload a recognizable photograph of yourself in front of the September 11, 2001 Memorial.

2.) Include the name of any one of the 343 FDNY firefighters killed in the line of duty responding to the World Trade Center box alarm assignment.

Cachers submitting finds are expected to recognizably appear in the photograph, and expected to include the name of a firefighter not previously listed in the finder's logs. Logs withstanding compliance can expect sudden disappearance.

While familiar with several of the FDNY firefighters that gave their lives that day, one in particular is most prominent in my thoughts and prayers each day.

The cacher that submits this firefighter's name in their "Found it" log will receive a pair of unactivated travel bug tags.

The "I shouldn't have to say this" Addendum: I will NOT accept photographs of your hand, your foot, your dog, your GPS, or your child's favorite stuffed animal at the Memorial. If you submit anything other than a picture of yourself at the Memorial, a self-portrait of yourself at the Memorial, or the name of an unremembered firefighter, the find will be deleted (Oct 31, 2008).
