A Wetland is an area of land which soil is saturated with moisture either permantly or seasonally. Such areas may also be covered partially or completely by shallow pools of water. Wetlands include swamps, marshes, and bogs, among others. Wetlands are considered the most biologically diverse of all ecosystems, and they help support an abundance of animal and plant life. Wetlands also serve as natural wastewater purification systems.
A Marsh is a type of wetland that is subject to frequent or continuous flooding. Typically the water is shallow and features grasses, rushes, reeds, sedges, and other herbaceous plants. Woody plants will be low-growing shrubs. A marsh is different from a swamp, which has a greater proportion of open water surface and may be deeper than a marsh. The term "swamp" is used for a wetland dominated by trees rather than grasses and low herbs.
