This is a relatively easy on track walk which can be done as either a solid day walk or as an overnighter. There are a couple of ways to choose from to approach this cache. The usual route would be via Ruined Castle but you could come from Kedumba. Though this is not a difficult walk for the average day bushwalker with absolutely no need to leave the track, you will still require a reasonable level of fitness. There are a couple of significant ups and downs.
Views are quite good from a number of points along the way – not least from the cache location.
If you choose you can make this an overnight walk. Mt Solitary is a popular overnighter for beginners as there are a number of spots at which there is reasonable camping and it is all on track. You should be self-sufficient with water as it is very unreliable on Mt Solitary. All the usual bushwalking caveats apply – take water, food, care around the cliffs, suitable clothing for bad weather etc.
The Jamison 1:25,000 map 3rd Edition shows the way.
Do yourself a favour though, and don’t bother in bad weather.
Note on the cache location: The cache can be retrieved quite safely however it is only a metre or so from a drop – take care.
The area of the cache location is a popular lookout for bushwalkers – take a look at the nearby log book. Please ensure the cache and covering rocks are returned exactly as found and try not to leave a geotrail.
