5 minutes out of Newmarket is Thornton Bales Conservation Area. The entrance is west of the parking lot (N44°1.628' W79°31.156')and takes you to a steep hill with steps.
This is a beautiful park made of valleys, ridges and lots of trees (to throw off your GPS). It's a great 1 hour hike (a little over 1 km each way). There are a lot of trails to sidetrack you . Bring a compass and check your heading before you enter. Also, landmark the parking lot in the event you get turned around.
The Geocache is in a dark green/brown container with a Red Cross First Aid symbol on the lid. It is hidden at the bottom of a birch tree with another dead tree on the ground that encircles the birch tree and is approx 25' from the trail.
Save some energy for the climb back up the steps.
p.s. no ink stamps please
