Mutte #43 - Sofienlund Lergrav Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Velcome to the Sofienlund Claypit.

From the end of 1800s until 1970 tiles were baked at the Sofienlund Tileworks, situated between the claypit and the Gudenå river. The clay for the tiles was dug in the claypit, after which sand was added to get the right texture.

Early on, the finished tiles were shipped on barges along the Gudenå. The barges were pulled by people, and today you can still follow the paths used along the brinks of the Gudenå - also here in Ulstrup.

On the western slope of the claypit, a part of the vegetation has been cleared, so you can see the geological layers and how the land was formed. This area is so important geologically, that it is appointed National Geographic Area of Interest.

It is recommended to walk around the lake, it's a walk of approximately 600 meters, and prams and pushchairs can easily be brought along. Wheelchair users may need help for the catual cache extraction, but can otherwise take the trip as well.

This "Mutte" is the 43rd in the batch from " Bondegaards Mutter"
