Geocache Description:

On August 15th and 16th, 2009 – Sat. and Sun., The Great Northern Tier Geocaching – Letterboxing Tournament is back!

Expert and amateur geocachers, individuals, and families are all invited to join the hunt for “caches & letterboxes” hidden throughout the Leominster – Fitchburg MA Region’s forests, parks, farms and cultural sites using a hand-held GPSr (Global Positioning Satellite receiver) unit and a list of coordinates.
2009 event will be based at the Doyle Reservation – Leominster, MA.
This event is a competitive, 2-day geocaching tournament in the Leominster - Fitchburg area. Geocachers will be encouraged to find as many caches, both real and virtual, in order to amass points to win prizes and awards. Over 50 caches will be hidden or established within the Leominster - Fitchburg area). Entrants will be provided (beginning at 9 am Saturday morning) with a packet of Cache sheets with the coordinates for all of the caches established or being used for the Tournament. Entrants will have until Sunday afternoon until 3 pm to turn in their scorecard. Tournament organizers will then score each entrant (team or individual) and register a score for them. Entrants will receive prizes based on their score and the category they entered. Geocachers who do not want to take part in the competitive aspects of the event are still encouraged to participate for the social and recreational aspects of the event. The Tournament will begin at Doyle Reservation Leominster, MA, one of the sponsors of this event. This event is initially co-sponsored by: Johnny Appleseed Trail Association, The Trustees of Reservations, & Geocacher Nomad64

The Leominster - Fitchburg area is an area rich in natural and cultural history. This tournament is being held to encourage entrants to come discover the wealth of opportunities to recreate and learn in this fascinating part of the state.
