Geocache Description:

Hidden Paradise

Scuba Cache

To hunt for this cache you must be a Certified SCUBA Diver.  The cache is located in Hidden Paradise Campground in St. Paul, Indiana.  This is a ‘multi-leg’ cache, in that the coordinates for the final cache can be found on a plaque attached to an object resting on the bottom of the Quarry Lake at Hidden Paradise.

The above coordinates will put you at your place of entry into the water.  From there, take a compass reading of 125 degrees and swim in that direction.  If you stay on that heading, you should come upon a large object sitting on the bottom.  Once you find it, search for a 5x7 dark green plague with white lettering.  Your search will be made easier if you take a light with you and remember that the plaque could be covered with silt.  The coordinates on the plaque will take you to the final cache on land not too far from the Quarry.  You might want to take something to write on to record the coordinates.

You will need to drive to the camp office when you first arrive and sign in.  There is a $10/day charge for diving.  They also have air fill available for $5/tank.

The cache container is a standard-size (50 cal) ammo box.  The contents are mostly ‘scuba’ related items, but there are a few other items for the ‘non-scuba’ members of your party to exchange.  There is also a nice “First Finders” prize for the first one to find this cache!

Most divers in central and southern Indiana know about Hidden Paradise and probably most of them had their ‘open water’ training for their Certification here.  It’s a great place to dive and you will probably see plenty of the underwater life living there during your dive.  If you’re lucky, you might spot one of the elusive paddlefish that live there.  Lately, we’ve been seeing small freshwater jellyfish (harmless).  The larger ones are about the size of a quarter and you can see their almost transparent mushroom-shaped bodies pulsating around like creatures from the deep depths of the ocean. Check at the office when you sign in and they might have some there to show you.

There are plenty of other activities to do there besides diving, so it would be a great place to spend the whole day or even the weekend.  Hidden Paradise Campground is more like a Park.  You can hike the trails along the river or one of the many nature trails through the wooded rolling hills and pine grooves in the 75 acres there.  You can rent a canoe, kayak or a paddleboat.  There’s a playground for the kids and even a small zoo.

I want to thank the owners, Ernie and Lynn Pahl, for giving us the opportunity to place our cache here.  I hope everyone enjoys it.  Please let them know when you sign in that you’re there to hunt for this cache.  They are interested in this sport too and especially this cache and would like to follow its activity on the website.  This will give them the chance to meet the people that are logging this cache.  For any other questions you might have about the diving or camping, you can call – (765) 525-6582 or email – hpcamp@tds.net

By the way, you can get permission to do night diving here and of course, I would highly recommend making this a night dive/caching adventure.

A special thanks to Indy Diver for his time and efforts and teaming up with me in placing this cache.
