Geocache Description:

Yes, this is a boat required picnic.

This is an event where getting there is more than half the fun! Whether you have gas to burn or you want to give your arms a work out come join us for a picnic on one of Lake Erie’s many islands. OnD’Hunt will be leading the self propelled group that will be departing at 9:00am from N41 44.590 and W83 28.537. This is a Michigan DNR ramp at the end of Algonquin Street off of Summit Street in Erie, MI. The DNR ramp is know as Half Way Creek Boat Access, but we have not been able to find any additional information about it on the DNR website. schwnman99 will be coordinating the gas guzzlers but departure times and locations will be up to the individual boat captains.

The rendezvous time will be at 10:30am at the posted coords. Check back regularly for updates and details as they develop. Obviously, weather (including wave heights) could be a factor with this event. Please check back or e-mail one of us if you are uncertain about the weather’s affect on the event. We are planning for August 3rd as the rain date and we will reschedule out further if need be.

To keep things simple, this is a BYOP (“Bring Your Own Picnic”), Picnic! Each cacher will be responsible for bringing their own food and drink. It is up to you how fancy you want to make your picnic. Style points (in the form of bragging rights) will be awarded for the most creative!! If any paddlers need help delivering a cooler to the island we will assist with arranging delivery through one of the power boats. Just e-mail one of us. Also if there is an interest in a grill, we will organize one group grill to be delivered to the island.

See you on the island!

Update July 16, 2008:

I have a couple ofupdates for everyone. Please note that there may be a fee at the DNR ramp if someone is there to collect it. I have never seen someone there, but that is a possibility. Also there are no rest room's or drinking water at the island please plan accordingly. Also the rendezvous point (posted coords) may change slightly depending on if other boaters are already there. If you cannot find us, pull out your GPS walk in circles like you are lost and we will find you! Finally we are planning to have one small jetski launch from the ramp for support to the manual boats. If anyone else would like to do that, please e-mail me. Thanks.

Update July 24, 2008:

I just wanted to echo some of Gizmoguy411's comments and get them onto the event page. When you log a "Will Attend", please try to include the following:

1) How many in your party,

2) What kind of craft you will be using,

3) And if you have additional capacity for other people and/or cargo.

I would also recommend that you add this page to your "Watch List" so you will be automatically notified of updates. Thanks to all who have responded so far. It should be a great adventure!

Update July 30, 2008:

The picnic is right around the corner and the weather sounds good. In an effort to help organize the two armadas, I have attached a spread sheet of the boats that are going. See you on the island.
