Geocache Description:

Welcome to Vermont's first and only Webcam Cache!

You won't find a container of goodies here! Instead the goal is to get your picture taken!

This cache is an exercise in following specific instructions. If you care not to follow the directions to the letter, then don't post a find. Note that this is a 5-level cache. It is NOT a Park & Grab Cache!

Instructions and rules:

Step 1:The Camera Site. Before you go to the site, make sure you and your helpers can access the camera at: http://www.myrecnet.com/webcam/webcams.htm You will get a video screen. Click on the arrow in the middle to get the screen to go live. The camera will pan left to right and then back again. You will eventually be standing at the far right of the pan.

Step 2: Practice capturing a image. This can be a bit tricky if you do not know what to do. Generally, you grab a screen shot by using the "Print Screen" (PrtSc) button on your computer. This grabs a still image into the clipboard. You will then need to paste this image into a suitable program like Photoshop or Word, or any program which will allow someone to easily view the image. Acceptable file types: jpg, gif, pdf, or doc. You will need to upload this image with you in the picture to log this cache. You may need to call in your favorite computer Geek to do learn how to do this. I cannot give computer support!

Step 3: Plan Your Visit! First, you will need a way to grab the image. You can use a phone or a laptop with a hot spot, but the picture MUST BE FULL PAGE SIZE and of a SUITABLE RESOLUTION. If your phone produces a tiny, blurry image, that will NOT be acceptable. Try it before heading out. Or else, you can skip bringing any computer and instead, phone a helper to grab the image for you.

Step 4. Bring the required object. Bring something large - at LEAST 3ft x 3ft, to hold ABOVE your head. Possible items include a large balloon, large umbrella, large flag or a large piece of bright orange cardboard. A campaign sign or any of those illegal signs found along the highways are perfect for this. Unacceptable items: your GPS, your phone, a stick, your fist or anything smaller than 3ft x 3ft. And you MUST HOLD it above your head in the picture! If you fail to hold the item above your head, you don't get credit!

Step 5: Go to the Camera! Go to: N 44 33.195 W 073 13.931. This location is on the shore of Malletts Bay. The "spot" is on the upper ramp. above the docks, adjacent to the building. If you face the water and turn left, you should see the camera. DO NOT stand on the dock in the water near the boats!

Step 6: Site Rules:

  1. Park up the hill, near the road. All the spots near the water are reserved. DO NOT PARK where you are not supposed to or else you will tick off the people who run the place.
  2. Daytime only! Your picture will confirm this!
  3. Don't linger or loiter. Grab your picture and move on. Otherwise the employees will ask what you are doing. It would be a good idea to bring someone along and engage in conversation. If you look suspicious (as all cachers do), folks will ask questions. If someone asks, tell them you want to see yourself on their camera! (It's the truth!).

Step 7: Grab the Image. Before going to the spot, get the web site running on your device in the car so that you are ready to go. Stand in the appointed spot. When the camera pans all the way to the right, you will see yourself (hopefully). Hold up your large object and grab the image. Then go back to the car and check to see if you got it OK. Check it again. If you mess up you will have to return to the site and grab another picture.

Step 8 - Post the Log. Go down this checklist and make sure each and every item is satisfied:
-- You are using the actual web cam camera and not your own or someone else's camera
-- You are standing at the specific spot and facing the camera
-- You are holding a large item, 3 ft x 3 ft, or larger, ABOVE your head
-- You are using a device which produces a suitable resolution picture
-- You have included the picture in your log

Unacceptable excuses:
-- The camera wasn't working that day
-- The camera wasn't pointing in the right spot
-- I'm that small gray dot in the back of the picture, where the arrow is pointing
-- I forgot to bring something large with me
-- We didn't have time to figure out where to stand
-- I know I left something out, but we live 3500 miles away and cannot return
-- I forgot to post the picture
-- I captured the picture, but my hard drive crashed (or else my dog ate it)

I get a message when you post a log. If any item is missing, the log will be immediately deleted. Be sure to have everything included before leaving! Decision of the CO is final.

if you are missing the required elements, you can alternately post a "Write Note" type of log . But you cannot claim a find. That would not be fair to others.

Please post within 30 days of your visit.

If you have questions or want to propose using a different location or different scenario, then you must contact the CO for approval PRIOR to going and posting.

Say "cheese"!
