Geocache Description:

This is not your regular cache, you will have invested thousands of miles to get the answer to this one! Do not go looking for the cache at the listed coords! Unless of course you have some sort of access to the Pentagon, even then you will find nothing there but a Gazebo to relax at.

Hmmm, what is the DeLorme Challenge?

The DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer is published for all 50 states. These maps are a favorite among travelers and outdoorsmen and are available at many locations, including online directly from DeLorme. The goal of this cache is simple (Really?): find a cache on each and every block of each and every page of The Virginia DeLorme Atlas & Gazetteer.

The final cache coordinates can be obtained by successfully finding a cache in each page of the Atlas (62 valid pages and sections in all).

In order to claim this cache, you must first send me a file containing all of your finds. (.GPX format is preferred or .LOC) Filter out Locationless (RIP), Event and CITO caches before sending. At a minimum I need a list containing cache name, waypoint (GC#), and coordinates.) I will the review the list in my secret cache lab verifying each page needed. Once everything checks out, I will then send you the correct coordinates for the final cache! The find cannot be logged until the physical container is found and the logbook inside signed.

Current guidelines (17Oct06):

  1. As mentioned above, the posted coordinates are not the actual coordinates for the cache. The actual cache may actually be quite some distance from these coordinates as they move from time to time.

  2. Generally accepted rules, guidelines and conditions for logging a cache find apply. These must be bona fide caches listed on Geocaching.com that you have personally (physically) found and logged. You may include caches found prior to the creation of The Virginia DeLorme Challenge so long as they meet all other Challenge requirements.

  3. Cache hides will not count toward the Challenge

  4. All cache types count as finds or hides for the DeLorme Challenge with the exception of Locationless (RIP), Event and CITO caches.

  5. If a Virginia DeLorme Atlas page includes space not located in Virginia, only caches in the Virginia portions count. We will go off of the posted coordinates for a cache when determining in which state or page a given cache falls.

  6. The seven pages that are split between two maps (37, 40, 52, 63, 64, 71 and 78) count as one cache per page, not one per map, excluding caches that fall outside of Virginia.
The above would equal 14 maps, 7 pages, 7 caches.

  7. Map 31 is exempt as it has no caches. If you post progress on this page before one is placed then you will not have to make the drive. If not then you will be forced to find it.

  8. While you may have others with you when you find the final cache, only those who have fulfilled ALL criteria for this cache will be allowed to log it as a find. Find logs by other cachers will be deleted.

  9. When in doubt ask—we can discuss it or even seek guidance from others, but the final decision rests with the cache owner.

Thanks to Haicoole for starting the idea for this cache and to the other cache owners who have taken the idea and run with it for their own states. Have fun going for this cache as my goal is to complete this challenge as well.

Please note your progress in a note/log on the cache page.  Regrettably, maintaining the current page completion list has grown unmanageable.
