Muckle Ayre Mill Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

jaydee67: This cache has gone missing again. Went for a good look today and couldn't find any trace of it. It never was hidden in the walls of the mill - it says that in the description. It's a shame it has been taken. Sorry everyone.

Geocache Description:

Muckle Roe is an island connected to mainland Shetland by a bridge. The cache is reached by following the road to its end and then a footpath to the beach before continuing up the burn for the last bit of the journey.

The cache is in an area popular with walkers, with the paths to the lighthouse and the Hams nearby.

Park your car at the signposted area just before the end of the road and then walk to the end of the road where you will find the beach signposted along a track.

At the second signpost follow the direction for the lighthouse, although the Hams is a good walk. At the beach follow the burn up a little and you will see the old water mill. We went over the hill for the last bit rather than sticking to the stream.

The cache is beside the mill, it is not in the structure of the mill and the mill should not be disturbed while looking for it.

i originally set this cache down by the beach until Miss Breeksy took us up the burn to see the mill which I didn't know was there. Thanks to her for this and to Master Breeksy for going and retrieving the cache so we could set it in a more suitable location. A good place to visit with a picnic, take some time and enjoy the peace. You may even spot a Shetland wren, we did!
