My whole life ( other then two years in Alabama ) I've
hiked Maple Mountain at least once a summer, sometimes more, this
year it will be August 4th.
There are already some non-cachers going, and we decided to
make it an Event hike and invite all Geocachers and everyone else
too! all are welcome, it's a big mountain with plenty of room for
all.
Anyone can make the hike if they prepare for it, I've been
going with little 9,10,11 year old scouts for years, as well as
older people, but you will want to do some hiking to work up to
it.
Here is a Link to the
photos from the 2006 hike.
To get started : Go to Mapleton, Main Street, Then 400
North and go East on 400 North until it takes you up the canyon and
into Whiting Campground, go through the Campground to the end and
there is the trailhead parkinglot.
The fun begins at 7am, the fast hikers will get down at
around noon or 2pm ish.. the slowpokes like ADØOR will get down at
about 7pm. Alot of people like to just hike to Maple Lake, it's a
good place to relax and then turn back, but some will continue to
the top of the mountain from there.
Also, If you don't think you can make it feel free to hike
part way with us and turn back, you can do that and still "attend"
the event.
