L’eremita San Pellegrino, continuava a resistere alle lusinghe del Diavolo. Un giorno il demonio, infuriato, perse la pazienza e colpì Pellegrino con uno schiaffo talmente potente da farlo ruotare per ben tre volte su sé stesso. A questo punto il Santo prese un buon slancio e restituì il ceffone al Diavolo. Fu un colpo così terribile da far volare il demonio su tutta la valle del Serchio che finì contro le rocce dell’Apuane con tale forza da traforare uno sperone della Pania. Nacque così il monte Forato.
In questa località, i devoti si recavano e si recano tutt'ora trasportando un sasso sulle spalle, depositandolo lì dopo aver compiuto 3 giri del luogo della tentazione del Santo.
La grandezza del masso è stabilita in funzione della gravità del peccato.
Per questo motivo al Giro del Diavolo si trovano migliaia di sassi impilati dai devoti nei secoli.
The hermit San Pellegrino, continued to resist the Devil’s temptations. One day the angry devil lost his patience and struck Pellegrino with a slap so powerful that he rotated three times on itself. At this point the Saint took a good momentum and returned the slap to the Devil. It was so strong a hit, to fly the devil across the valley of the Serchio river, ending against the Apuan Alps rocks piercing a spur of the Pania Mountain. Thus was born Monte Forato (Pierced Mountain).
The location where the brawl took place was named “Giro del Diavolo” (the Devil’s Round). This place is reached, since then, by devotees in pilgrimage carrying stones on their shoulders and throwing them in a large heap, after having completed 3 laps around the stack of stones. The size of each rock is, of course, determined in the light of the seriousness of sin committed by the devotee who brought it, thousands of stones are now stacked by devotees over the centuries.
Suggeriamo di posizionare l’auto nel parcheggio indicato, il percorso di circa 1500 m., si percorre in una trentina di minuti, inizia con una discreta pendenza per poi raggiungere la meta dolcemente.
Al rientro vi consigliamo di visitare la piccola chiesa che contiene una teca con i corpi mummificati di S.Pellegrino e S.Bianco.
We recommend to place your car in the indicated parking lot, just out of the village. The path to the cache is about 1500 m., it can be covered in about thirty minutes. It starts with a good slope and then reach the destination smoothly.
On the way back you should visit the small church where, behind the altar, is located a reliquary containing the mummified bodies of S. Pellegrino and S.Bianco.
