Geocache Description:

This is a magnetic nano in a series of caches placed in honor of Maine sea captains. Continue down the path to enjoy a gorgeous view!

From the New York Times, Nov. 29th, 1903:
Sailors Killed by Savages
DAMARISCOTTA, Me., Nov. 28 - A letter received to-day from Mrs. A.J. Hoelstad, wife of Capt. Hoelstad of the ship Ben Sewall, wrecked in Formosa Channel, partially confirms the report that a boatload, including Wat Morris, the first mate; twelve men, and a woman were killed on Botel Tobago.
The letter says that five men were found, and seven men and a Japanese woman, wife of Mate Morris, were missing.

From the wording, although the letter is not explicit, it is thought the writer meant that the bodies of the five men were found. The letter says that the mate landed on Botel Tobago, contrary to the Captain's wishes."

Lesson? Always listen to the Captain!

Captain Hoelstad's vessell, the Ship Benjamin Sewell, was the largest vessell built in Pennellville Shipworks in Brunswick Maine.
