I've driven past this spot on the freeway countless times, and wondered what that funny little bridge was doing there and how to get to it. It turned out to be easy to access via streets to the West, and what a surprise when I arrived! A blue heron was fishing from the bridge! After he flew away I walked up and found a perfect little snakeskin left behind by a garter snake. Wildlife can thrive in unexpected places!
Some long-time Kent residents have told me that this bridge used to be part of 208th Street and continued up to the East Hill. That section of road was removed when Hwy 167 was built, and now it is a dead end here at the bridge. The bridge directly to the south was built to replace it; it crosses over 167 and rejoins 208th Street on the other side. Another small remnant of old 208th Street can be found across the hwy immediately north of the current location of 208th.
DO NOT try to get this cache from the freeway! You can drive within inches of it via surface streets. You do not even need to go near the freeway.
