This cache is located on an island in the Spring River between
Mammoth Springs and Hardy. You don't have to use a boat to reach
it, but you may want to consider it. There are more thorns than
poison ivy on this island.
Note: Canoe Rentals are available first of
April through first of October. This is a 3/5 October thru March
and a 3/4 April thru September. Because of access restrictions, the
cache is only reachable by boat from Oct through
March.
The cache container is a 7.62mm Ammo Can (of
course) tied to a tree so it won't leave the island during periods
of high water.
It can be reached by: (1)wading across above the falls, (2)swimming
across above or below the falls (3)by boat from above the falls.
Use some common sense, folks. We don't need anybody getting hurt
out there. The rocks are slick.
For the complete adventure, take a canoe or kayak down the river
from Dam 3. It'll be about 7.75 miles to the cache. Canoe rentals
run in the $30 to $40 range in this area. If you plan to wade or
swim, most river access areas near the cache will charge you about
$5 to park & use their piece of riverfront property, but
they're all shut down during the off-season.
