Geocache Description:

You are looking for the entrance to the site of the old Bury Mill Race. The container is a small dark metal container about 4cm long.
Watch out for nettles.

The cache is overlooked in the distance by the spire of St Mary's and near to the Bury in Gadebridge Park. The river that runs through the west side of the park changes from a narrow river to the North before it passes over a weir and through a culvert under the road and enters the town through the college and onto the water gardens. The Park was once a private estate now given over to the public as a free park. Gadebridge was the property of Sir Astley Paston Cooper, an eminent surgeon. He was appointed surgeon to the king in 1828, and had for some years previous to that date spent much of his time at Gadebridge.
The owners of the Estate, the Paston Cooper family left the park to the people of the town. Gadebridge House itself was demolished in the 1960s. If you park nearby you have to pay even on a Sunday, but the park and ride park just down the road is still free.
A Mill race is a channel of a stream or river, designed for conducting water to or from a water wheel or other device for utilizing its energy. The race leading to the water wheel is called the head race. You are looking for the start of the Bury Mill head race.
