Sunday Morning Hiking Series #5 - Grandeur
Peak
This hike was originally supposed to happen the previous week
Sunday Oct 4. Unfortunately the thunder and lightning kept us from
the mountaintop. The hike is rescheduled for Sunday Oct 11 which is
predicted to be sunny. This is the day after the mega
event,
GeoCoinFest SLC. Hopefully some out of town cachers will be
able to join us. If that describes you and you flew in and used the
hotel shuttle, please let me know. I will be happy to swing by the
Marriott and give a ride to up to 4 people who would like to
attend.
For those new to this hiking series, these are social hikes
around the Salt Lake area for the purpose of caching, enjoying the
outdoors, and getting to know fellow cachers. There tend to be a
range of fitness levels that show up for the hikes. As the emphasis
is on being social, don't worry if a steep leaves you puffing. I'll
be right there clinging to a tree and puffing with you. The other
primary feature of these hikes is that they are short and can be
accomplished by noon. Trails tend to be a little emptier on Sunday
mornings and we'll be done in time for anyone who has Sunday
obligations to attend an afternoon service. If you don't have
anything else to do on Sunday, there's frequently a longer trail to
take.
Here's the start of the original description for this hike.
Fall is falling. Let's return to where we started the series and
enjoy the colors. Our starting spot will be across the street from
the first hike in the series. We'll park and start our hike from
the Church Fork picnic area. As usual we'll meet at 8 am and be on
the trail by 8:05 am. There should be no trouble getting this one
done by noon. Dress in layers as it is likely to be a bit chilly
initially. Once we start moving and as the day heats up the layers
can start coming off.
Please note the coordinates are for the turn to the trailhead.
From Mill Creek Canyon Rd turn left at the sign pointing the way to
Church Fork Picnic area. Drive to the end of that road to find the
trailhead. Also please remember this event is located in Mill Creek
Canyon for which there is a fee, $3 per car, to exit. If you like
the area, you may wish to purchase an annual pass.
If you would like more information about the whole series of
hikes, check out the others in the series.
Come on out and have some fun hiking and
caching! Make a Sunday morning caching hike part of your month!
Cache you there!
