This cache is the 19th point on the Dartmoor Forest boundary, as established by the 1240 Perambulation. More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.
The next waypoint on the Perambulation is Grymsgrove. This was the name given to the region around Erme Head. As the name suggests, there used to be a wood here, but it was long ago chopped down to supply fuel to the tinners who worked in Erme Pits.
There are several tributaries which could be called Erme Head, but the next waypoint is near to the marker stone “A Head”. The walk along the Erme to Blacklane Brook is one of the best footpaths in Dartmoor – if only there more like it.
The site of the replacement cache is alongside part of the centre of the longest stone row on Dartmoor.
