This cache is located along the former Erie and Ontario Railway
railbed. Then it was the Michigan Central Railway and eventually
the CN rail line
Although the scarring of the railway is still evident, the actual
rail-lines have been gone for many years.
The hardest part of this cache will be finding parking and
getting access to the railbed.
The cache is located in an area that is accessible but if you
approach from the southeast, you will be trespassing on railway
lands....so please come in from the northwest side of Portage
Road.
Once you have found the cache, take a minute to enjoy the
scenery and the roaring thunder of the Falls and try to imagine
what it was like almost 2 hundred years ago when the railway helped
to sculpt the landscape.....after all, it's not always about the
numbers.

December 31, 2009 by GordEtob (4610 found) This was the only cache we managed to find in Niagara Falls on New Year's Eve. Every other location (like at the "One Arm Bandit" cache) was jammed with thousands of muggles, so we put away our GPS units to join in the revelry. For this cache, Eagle Eyes decided to stay in the car in the pull-off to the north ("Unauthorized Vehicles Will Be Towed") to make sure we had transportation afterwards. I did the short hike to the cache area being very careful along the flat, icy patches. I recalled when this was an active railway line, and remember seeing a freight train moving along here many, many years ago on a visit to Niagara Falls. When I got close to ground zero, I wondered if I was in the wrong location, since my GPS was pointing out into the road, which was about 12 or 15 feet straight down. But then I spotted faint footprints in the snow, and they led me right to the cache. TFTC -- last cache of 2009! SL @ 9:50 P.M. 2nd of 2 today; #4,465 GordEtob & DLC Eagle Eyes

December 22, 2009 by twokidsgps (263 found) It is WAYYY slippery here!! Use caution!! Since I met you a couple of weeks back looking for snaggles8 - lust cache - I now can curse you with a mental picture of what you actually look like (not a made up image, like I used too! We thought it would be unfindable under the layer of ice but low and behold... it was safe and accessible! Thanks!
