Branco
Castelo Branco é uma cidade
portuguesa, capital do distrito
de Castelo Branco, situada na região
Centro (Beira Baixa) e subregião da Beira
Interior Sul. É sede de um dos maiores municípios
portugueses, com 1439,94 km² de área e 55 809 habitantes (2001),
subdividido em 25 freguesias. A
cidade desenvolve-se na encosta nascente de uma pequena elevação,
que se ergue duma vasta região planáltica. Assim a descreveu
Alexandre Herculano em 1851: "Beira Baixa olhando em volta parece
um plano onde se eleva ao centro o monte de Castelo Branco em cuja
encosta oriental alveja a cidade". Este sítio conferiu a Castelo
Branco todas as características de um aglomerado de fortaleza e
condicionou, durante séculos, os destinos e as funções da
cidade.

Branco City
Castelo Branco is a portuguese city, capital city of the district
of Castelo Branco, situated in the region center (Beira Baixa) and
sub-region of the South Interior Side. It is headquarters of one of
the biggest Portuguese cities, with 1439,94 km² of area and 55 809
habitants (2001), subdivided in 25 clienteles. The city is
developed in the rising hillside of a small rise, that it raises of
a vast planáltic region. This it described by Alexander Herculano
in 1851: “Beira Baixa looking around seems a plan where it
raises to the center the mount of Castelo Branco in whose eastern
hillside it whitens the city” This site gave to Castelo Branco
all the characteristics of a cluster of fortitude and conditioned,
for centuries, the destinations and functions of the
city.
Parque da Cidade/ Jardim
do Paço Episcopal
O Jardim do Paço Episcopal de
Castelo Branco revela-se como um dos mais originais exemplares do
barroco em Portugal.
Em especial no que
respeita à estatuária: aos aspectos simbólicos e à disposição dos
seus elementos em percursos temáticos. Foi o Bispo da Guarda, D.
João de Mendonça (1711-1736) que encomendou e provavelmente
orientou as obras do Jardim. Este formoso jardim barroco, em forma
rectangular, é dominado por balcões e varandas com guardas de ferro
e balaústres de cantaria. Dispõe de cinco lagos, com bordos
trabalhados, nos quais estão montados jogos de água - elemento
purificador. Este jardim sofreu uma profunda e complexa intervenção
de restauro e conservação, no âmbito do Programa Polis, a nível de
tratamento de vegetação, reintrodução de espécies vegetais,
recuperação dos sistemas de águas, iluminação e drenagem. Esta
intervenção incide também na limpeza da cantaria e recuperação dos
muros e do tanque principal, sob a cascata de Moisés. Durante este
trabalhos, foi descoberto o sistema hidráulico perfeitamente
intacto, construído em 1725, procedendo-se à sua conservação e
restauro.
City Park
/ Garden of Bishop
The Garden of Bishop, reveals itself as one of the original copies
of the Baroque in Portugal. In particular regarding the statuary:
the symbolic aspects and the layout of its elements into thematic
paths. It was the Bishop of Guarda, D. João de Mendonça (1711-1736)
who ordered and probably guided the works of the Garden. This
wonderfull baroque garden, rectangular in shape, is dominated by
balconies with guards of iron and stone images. This garden have
five lakes, with lips worked, in which are mounted sets of water -
purifying element. This garden has a deep and complex intervention
of restoration and conservation, in the framework of Polis, the
level of treatment of vegetation, re-plant species, recovery of
systems for water, lighting and drainage. This intervention focuses
also on the cleaning of the stones and recovery of walls and the
main tank, under the cascade of Moises. During this work, the
hydraulic system was discovered completely intact, built in 1725,
making itself to its conservation and
restoration.
