Geocache Description:

To my knowledge this is Victoria’s first & only geocam!
Most other cities have them so I figure we should too!
This is a great geocam for tourists and it is accessible to everyone!
Good Luck! and ~SMILE~ for the camera! ~*NOTE*~ The camera zoom function is no longer available to unresgistered users.

This webcam is located on Dallas Road near the intersection at Cook Street between Clover Point & Ogden Point. The co-ords for this listing are where you need to stand in order to be in it’s view.
There is free angle parking available (sometimes) on the beach side of the street.
To view the live webcam, click the webpage link below the title of this listing or go to:
(visit link)

Select the “Dallas Road/Cook Street Webcam” from the main page.
A new console style window should appear with the current view from the webcam. If it doesn't, the cam is either offline or you need to update your browser plugins. If you don't know how to do this then you will have to consult your friendly neighborhood computer geek first.

This is relatively easy if you've never done a geocam before but it's going to require some teamwork to accomplish…

You will need someone monitoring the webcam while you go to the spot to have your picture taken.
YOU MUST HOLD UP BOTH OF YOUR ARMS WHILE FACING THE CAMERA OR HOLD UP YOUR GPS OR CELLPHONE TO QUALIFY!
Try something outrageous that identifies you for extra fun!
The webcam refreshes on a 60 second interval and can only be given zoom in/out commands by registered users of BigWaveDave. For this reason, I have taken out the zoom clause for photos to qualify. Look at the example photos for this listing to see the optimal zoom factor for your photo to be intelligible. To help support the operator of this webcam please visit the sponsor link on the main page. (this helps to keep it operating!)

The best times for optimal lighting are early in the morning or in the evening before sunset.
For a time on sunny afternoons there may be excessive glare or lens flares from the sun that obscure the image. Check the 7 day cam archive for any sunny day preceding your attempt to find out when the sun causes lens flares and glare.
There is a timer on the wecam viewer page that counts down to the next automatic refresh.
If this timer stops counting at any point you will need to reload the page (F5) to view the next image.

This cam should be online year-round but there are times when it may be down temporarily for maintenance and it is also moved seasonally to another location but the operator assures me it will still point in the same direction. If & when the camera is moved it will be up to you to find the correct place to stand to be entirely within it's view.
The person viewing the cam while you are posing for your photo can give you feedback with one minute latency if you have trouble getting in frame.

Your operative must save an image of you by either using the “download image” link on the viewer page or by right clicking on the current image & selecting the “save image as” option from the right-click menu. If you happen to miss a good image you can also try the “show last 10” option to see if you can salvage a decent shot.
A WEBCAM PHOTO MUST BE UPLOADED WITH YOUR LOG ENTRY FOR IT TO QUALIFY!

Photos & log entries that do not meet the qualifications will not be considered & will be deleted. NO CHEATERS! For group photos, simply have each member in the group post the same photo so I don't accidentally delete your log entry. Please don't process or edit the webcam images before posting them.

So, to sum things up…
Stand in the right spot, note the time, face the camera, hold up your arms or GPS or cellphone. SMILE! ~click~ have someone save the webcam image or you can take a chance on the image archive when you get home. You may have to hold your pose for up to a minute to be in one frame. Post the photo with your log entry & enjoy your 30 seconds of fame immortalized in pictures!

Holding up a huge banner that promotes geocaching is also an acceptable & preferred qualifying shot!
The "Most Outrageous Qualifying Photo" will be awarded a feature on the main cache page until it is bested!
Don't forget to note the TIME if you want to use the archived images. Archive images are titled by cam location, date, hour & second they were taken.

Have fun!
