Geocache Description:

Edward Berner invented the Ice Cream Sundae here over 100 years ago.

It must have been a warm day here when George Hallauer asked Edward Berner, the owner of a soda fountain, to top a dish of ice cream with chocolate sauce. The confection soon became quite popular. It came to be called a sundae because Ed would only serve it on Sundays.

These coordinates will take you to a historical marker on the edge of a well-manicured town square. To verify this find, send us a message via the link beneath the cache name above [Please do not verify by e-mail] provide the two dates on this marker and the three dates on the statue at the center of the square about 100 feet NNE (bearing 25°) of the marker.

NOTE: each member of a group must message the co at the time of logging or the log will be deleted. One member message for the whole group will not be permitted. One message for each log.

A re-creation of the soda fountain is among the exhibits in the old Washington House hotel (100 yards at bearing 120°). The cache is not very difficult so you might be tempted to leave without taking a moment to enjoy the ambiance of this beautiful little park in this quaint community that seems somehow stuck in time perhaps forty or fifty years ago. Don’t.
