Geocache Description:

The cache is a micro cache hidden near a giant Roman helmet on the Prestatyn hillside. For a helmet you need a head :) Could be a drive by or you might like to visit it at the end or beginning of your walk along Offa's Dyke.

To celebrate their milestone, the 100th cache placed by Team Marzipan was called The Mother Cache (GC15RYZ). (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=34e71758-6101-43dd-9689-817d5a112aa2 ) The object of The Mother Cache is for finders to take ready-prepared caches, BUT ONLY if they are going to hide them as Daughter Caches. This daughter is hanging out by a giant Roman helmet. "The iconic Roman helmet for the Hillside Gardens in Prestatyn is a commemoration of Prestatyn and a celebration of heritage. The idea was to design a bold, uplifting and memorable sculpture. Prestatyn's rich heritage, together with its stunning surrounding countryside provided the inspiration for the ideas. A variety of traditional and modern-day metal working techniques were used to construct the giant helmet entirely by hand, before finishing work was applied to replicate ancient bronze. The helmet proudly overlooks Prestatyn and marks a sense of achievment, especially for walkers finishing (or starting) the famous Offa's Dyke National Trail. Meaning in the Embossing It is a treasure to be discovered, unearth, nodding to an age gone by, Roman legions had settlements in Prestatyn, evidence of which is most notably situated in what is now Melyd Avenue the remains of the 20th legion's bath house can still be visited today and orignial artifact uncovered on the site, dating back as far as AD 120, can be viewd at Prestatyn Library. The helmet itself is returning to nature and is embossed with graceful Sessille Oak leaves - a tree common to the area and symbolic of strength and resilience. On further inspection you will find reference to local flora and fauna and many other attractions that Prestatyn boasts.

Congratulations to Team Marzipan for being FTF and Lou for making me want an iPhone for about 10 minutes 15/06/09
