Oak Trail Traditional Geocache
Lab Rat: I still don't know if the location of my cache is open now- after being closed due to fire damage. I just can't seem to find the time to hike up there, so I'm going to archive it, so someone can place a cache, if and when it does open up. Eventually, I'll put another one in the area.

This cache is located in the upper part of Santiago Oaks Regional Park. It's less than a 3/4 mile hike from the parking lot. You'll need 5 dollar bills for parking. It's a fairly steep, but scenic hike. You can also come in from the north, taking the trail at the north end of the school parking lot at Nohl Ranch Road and Serrano Avenue. No charge for parking there, but not as scenic.
This is my first cache, so I made it my favorite kind - a good hike and an easy find. Pick up a map in the park and explore. Be alert, though. There are some natural inhabitants you don't want to run into (snakes, ticks, mountain lions), and you need to be ready to dodge mountain bikers. One thing for sure, you'll enjoy some beautiful scenery in the middle of crowded Orange County!
The cache is an ammo can, and should be easy to find. DON'T BUSHWHACK FROM THE MAIN TRAIL - the vegetation is much too dense. If you're coming UPHILL, from the main area of the park, continue a short distance and look for a side trail. If you're coming from the school, you'll be coming down a steep hill, and you'll easily see the side trail. From the side trail, the amount of bushwhacking needed will depend on how much rain we've had, but should be minimal.
