This is a two part multi-cache mystery cache. Near the above
coordinates you will find an alien space probe.
Don't be fooled by the signs that say this is a weather station.
Earth authorities have no idea what this is, but being only 3 and 4
dimensional creatures they can't harm it and they can't move it. So
they are pretending it is a weather station that gives hourly
Cumulative
Chilling Hour readings . One of the buildings nearby is full of
experienced warriors who are watching over the site. (Notice the
VFW building in the middle of a public park.)
DIRECTIONS:Your job is to search the area and determine
which number of the alien space probes this is and add that number
to the last three digits of both the following North and West
coordinates: N38° 38.820 W121° 13.015.
WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLITY: If you get close to the second
stage, you can send me a description or photo of the cache
location. If you have chosen the correct location from the closest
sidewalk, I will approve your log.
M47:
Messier 47
(NGC2422) is an open star cluster of about 50 suns in the
constellation Puppis. It is about 16000 light years away and
is about 12 light years in diameter. It can be seen from Earth
with the naked eye but from the Southern Hemisphere. It was
discovered in 1654 but it's location was lost by scientists
and it's exact location was not figured out until 1959. Like
the majority of suns in the universe, most of these suns are
twin suns rotating around each other.
WHY THE ALIENS ARE HERE: My friends at the nearby Alien
Colony in the Granite Park region of Sacramento, tell me that this
space probe is here to study what the M47 Aliens consider to be one
of the most advanced forms of life on earth. We call them Horsehair
Worms.
HORSEHAIR WORMS This was an exciting discovery day for
Kolly Wobbels. She had never seen or heard of Horsehair Worms until
she discovered them in the water puddles the day we set this
cache.
On a wet day and when the season is right, you can find
horsehair worms in the water puddles in this area. When you see
them, they are in their adult stage of life. You can pick them up
and they will look at you. Please return them to the water. They
are not drowning. (The earthworms are, however, and would
appreciate a little assistance out of the water.) These "Horsehair
Worms" will eventually be consumed by insects and other small life
forms. They will then dissolve inside them and grow. Eventually,
they will kill the creature they are in and come out as long and
short "Horsehairs" swimming in the rain water. The long ones are
female and the stubby ones are males. They will mate by tying up
each other. Then they untie themselves and swim in the pools of
water waiting for you to pick them up to look at them. They are
completely harmless to humans and other large animals. They most
likely help keep the insect population down.
Please be gentle with the Horsehair Worms if you pick them up.
(Besides, you don't want to anger the Aliens!)
Aliens from the nearby Alien Colony have no idea why the M47
Aliens think the Horsehair Worms are one of the superior forms of
life on this Earth. Neither do I.
Opps, I forgot to add a pencil!!!
