There is about a 3/4 mile hike from the parking area to the cache
along a trail (mostly flat but some hilly areas) that looks like it
was cut by a bush hog. See image of cache below.

This previous quarry provided rocks for many of Nashville's
downtown buildings as well as the original Shelby Street bridge.
When it was pretty much depleted in the early 1930's a group of
landowners covered the basin with asphalt and flooded it creating
the lake. A club house and dance floor were built and hidden lake
became a popular swimming spot for Nashville's prep school boys
& girls until WWII. More recently, the land was slated to
become an upscale residential area but the developers went bankrupt
and the state (aka you and I) ended up with the land.
The hike is beautiful and serene with many opportunities to enjoy
Tennessee flora and fauna along the way. This is a rustic wooded
area (and I had the ticks to prove it)! The isolated lake that
suddenly appears at the final destination is a surprise find. The
lake is surrounded by cliffs with great views ......but USE
CAUTION. There is heavy tree cover so your GPSr may bounce around,
but let it settle down a bit and you should have no problem. Some
parking is available at the coordinates below along McCrory Lane
near a bridge. Take plenty of time to enjoy this area!
