en occitan d'Henri Terral.
Elle servira de thème pour vous faire
découvrir au travers de quelques caches des endroits de la ville
qui ont fait son histoire.
Construit au XIIe siècle à l'emplacement probable du château
primitif des comtes de Millau, le donjon médiéval, ou Tour Carrée,
assurait la sécurité de l'enceinte fortifiée dans son angle
sud-ouest. Propriété privée à partir du XIIIe siècle, celui-ci sera
acheté par les consuls de Millau en 1613 pour servir de base à la
tour octogonale devant abriter le bourdon communal. Ainsi naissait
le Beffroi.
La Tour Carrée servira de prison du XVIIe siècle au XIXe siècle,
notamment pendant la période révolutionnaire.
L'édifice est actuellement privé de sa belle flèche, incendiée par
la foudre le 29 juillet 1811. Celle-ci portait la hauteur totale de
l'ensemble à 52 mètres. Il est possible d'accéder à la plate forme
supérieure, située à 42 mètres de hauteur. Ce qui permet d'admirer
une vue d'ensemble de la ville de Millau, des Causses et du viaduc
de Millau.

Oh ! Qu'es polit Milhau is a song in Henri Terral's
Occitan.
It will serve as theme to make you discover through some masks of
the places of the city which made his history.
Built in the XIIth century in the likely place of the primitive
castle of the counts of Millau, the medieval donjon, or Square
Tower, assured(insured) the safety(security) of the surrounding
wall(speaker) strengthened in its southwest angle. Private property
from the XIIIth century, this one will be bought by the consuls of
Millau in 1613 to serve as base in the octagonal tower that must
shelter the municipal bumblebee. So was born the Belfry.
The Square Tower will serve as prison from the XVIIth century to
XIXth century, in particular during the revolutionary period.
The building is at present deprived of its beautiful arrow, burned
by the lightning on July 29th, 1811. This one carried(wore) the
total height of the set(group) in 52 meters. It is possible to
reach in flat superior shape, situated in 42 meters in height. What
allows to admire an overview of the city of Millau, Limestone
plateaus and the viaduct of Millau.
