The Half-Way Tree Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Cachew: The available landscape has significantly changed: no longer are there bushes by the fence to hide a container and the grass is neatly trimmed. (Getting ready for a sale?)

The Lil Otter first noticed the significance of this location and set this geocache 'free in the wild' in September of 2002,
Adopted by Cachew in August of 2007,
Became an Offset Cache in January Of 2008.

This geocache has brought a lot of smiles to the geocaching community over 20 years! Thanks to all who came to search and learn an interesting piece of geography and history!

Geocache Description:

~Winter-friendly cache~
~Not in a Hunting Area~
~Roadside Interest~

The Half-Way Tree yet stands!
Legendary spot used by early day Indians to indicate that they were halfway between Lake Michigan and the Mississippi River. Paced off by Indian runners and confirmed by the U.S. Survey.

This is an OFFSET cache. Imagine yourself, for a moment, one of the Indians who paced off this original distance. But you have it easy: Observe the nearby speed limit sign. Multiply the speed limit by 8 and walk towards the Mississippi River by that many steps from The Half-Way Tree plaque. There you will find the cache!

Enjoy!
