Geocache Description:

This cache begins with a virtual offset in Wayland (Old Sudbury) and leads to a multistage cache in Sudbury. The final stages are in a wooded area with a narrow trail, that may be muddy in the spring and summer. Bushwhacking is only required for the last 50 feet or so.

This is our first cache, and it tries to draw on the history of the area. Paraphrasing from "A Brief History of the Towne of Sudbury in Massachusetts": In the dead of the night...the warrior Philip marched....from Marlborough to Sudbury. On both sides of the Sudbury River, everyone sought refuge in such garrisons as were nearby or in fortified houses, or perhaps some removed eastward into what is now Weston or northward into Concord. The fortified shelters were quickly surrounded. Fierce engagements kept them isolated. Above the great meadows, at the Haynes Garrison house, two dozen men held off an onslaught of over 200... Twelve men from Concord who had come to the rescue by forced march were slain and scalped within sight of the gate. Find the memorial to the Concord Dozen at the listed coordinates. On this memorial you will need to find the date of James Hosmer's death in the format MM DD YYYY. Add the 4 digit year to the latitude given below, and add the month and day in the format MM0DD to the longitude below to get the location of the second stage, where you will find a small container with the final coordinates. N 42° 21.571 + Y.YYY W 71° 20.049 + MM.0DD The final cache is a plastic jar. There are finders buttons (one per group please) with a specially marked button and a coffee gift card for the first finder. The cache starts out with a number of the usual toys and trade items.
