The Lost Civilization of Clemansville (#2) Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

BakRdz: Since the construction, the marker has been moved down the road a bit onto private property. I was unable to secure approval to replace the cache at the new location, so unfortunately while Clemansville was found again, it looks like this cache and the series will be lost.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the spirit of the cache series. I hope you enjoyed it while it lasted.

Geocache Description:

This cache is a part of a series highlighting Winnebago County’s “Lost Civilizations” and also contains one marker with the information needed to find the treasure at the end of The Quest for Lost Civilizations (GC22CJE).

Horace Clemans, the first settler in the Town of Vinland, moved to this area in 1846 for the fertile farmland. In it’s prime the area hosted a general store and a school. In 1868, a post office was established in this area (which is when it was officially named) and operated until 1902. Upon the closing of the post office and the school, no remnants of the civilization remained. Today, only a farm and a historical marker upon the original Clemans’ land still stand.

The cache is hidden just off to the side of the monument within the right of way. May not be easy to get depending on the depth of th snow, but it should be able to be retrieved with a little digging. Be sure to write down the information found on the “artifact” inside the cache. It will have one of the symbol translations needed to complete the coordinates for the Final.
