Geocache Description:

Welcome to the VT Winter Mix 2010!

PLEASE POST A ‘WILL ATTEND’ INDICATING IF YOU CAN MAKE IT OR A NOTE IF AN ALTERNATE DATE WOULD BE PREFERRED. Also PLEASE consider donating a small prize towards the Poker Run or Door Prize raffle if you’re getting involved.

The winter makes it difficult for us to get out and see each other, so let’s get together and share stories and do some winter caching!
--

What: A winter event of course! Activities will include: announce the winner(s) of the Poker Run (described below) and award prizes, Door Prize raffle, trackable table, brown-bag lunch with Geo-friends, and lots of BRAND NEW CACHES to be found in the Stowe area after we finish up with the rest of the activities.

When: Sunday, February 21st. Lunch starts at noon (but you can eat whenever you want!). We should be done with pre-caching activities by 2pm to leave plenty of time for finding all the new hides in Stowe!

Where: Stowe Mountain Resort and surrounding area. I have spoken with the Hospitality department at Stowe and they are happy for us to have our event here, BUT we can’t do a potluck. This will therefore be a BROWN BAG lunch. The dining options in Midway Lodge are new and renovated this year, so that is always an option too!

What to Bring: 5 Poker Run game pieces (optional), lunch/$$ to buy lunch, A PRIZE ($5 value or less for Door Prize raffle), trackables, everything else geocaching! Bring your Dogs too, but unfortunately they can't come in the Midway Lodge. Optional: snowshoes, x-country skis, gaitors, etc.

VT Poker Run 2010 Information!

The Poker Run is not a requirement for the event, but I encourage you to get involved because it’s going to be a lot of fun! TO BE ELIGIBLE, YOU MUST COLLECT 5 GAME PIECES AND BRING THEM TO THE EVENT!

A BOOKMARK list of ALL POKER RUN CACHES can be found here (visit link) There are a total of 17 caches containing game pieces, from quick and easy, to difficult and harder to get to. You only need 5 game pieces, but you MUST FIND 5 CACHES, and take ONE game piece from each.

Rather than use traditional playing cards, I have used game pieces (POGs) instead. These pieces have an arbitrary number(s) on the back. Therefore, you will NOT know your cards until the event. This will eliminate the chance of unfair advantages or cheating. Simply collect 5 game pieces from 5 caches, and bring them to the event! You will redeem your game pieces at the event for their respective playing cards.

THE WINNER WITH THE BEST HAND WILL RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE FOR A 1 YEAR PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP OR RENEWAL. I am contributing this towards the event and game. If you would like there to be more than one prize, please consider donating something yourself. Anything geocaching related would be a great prize for the Poker Run OR for the Door Prize giveaway! Thanks!

Updates 02/09/10:
First, if your geocaching name (ex. CachingFamily) represents more than one person, you have two options:
1) Collect 5 POGs for your whole group, and play as one entity.
2) Collect 5 POGs for EACH person in the group. If you choose this option, YOU MUST BRING ONE (1) ITEM FOR THE DOOR PRIZE GIVEAWAY FOR EVERY ADDITIONAL PARTICIPANT. (For example, a family of 4 (CachingFamily) can all individually play and each collect their own POGs, IF they bring 3 door prizes!).

Second, the winner of the Poker Run will get FTF rights for the VT Winter Mix 2010.

Third, a "STF WILD CARD Round" will take place after the official winner is announced. The wild card will be chosen out of a hat RIGHT before the STF Round. Winner will receive an unactivated trackable mystery prize!

Let the games begin! Please respond yes/no/maybe so I can get a sense of who is going! Thanks everyone!
