This cache was cloned from the Attack of the Clones cache placed by DenaliNW on December 17th, 2001 near OHSU hospital!
The best way to get to this cache is to hike in from either Washington Park/Hoyt Arboretum (approx. 1 mile) or Macleay Park (approx. 3/4 mile, uphill) following the Wildwood Trail. The trail is well used and can be busy on summer weekends. You can also drive pretty close, but that is not nearly as impressive or fun. Once you arrive, be sure to walk the grounds and visit the most famous mansion in Portland. There are discount passes available for printing by clicking-> here! The cache is a medium-sized Tupperware container within 25 feet of the trail. Be discreet since you will be in full view of the trail!. You'll know you are close when you spot the yellow corner survey tag on the tree next to and uphill from the trail. A compass will be helpful in finding the actual cache.
This is another in a series of caches along the 40 Mile Loop Trail System (actually 140 mile upon completion!) in Portland. Learn all about it from the Portland Parks website found at: 40 Mile Loop
The Wildwood Trail is the longest
completed portion (23 miles long) of the 40-Mile Loop. Other caches already placed along the 40 mile loop include: Slough cache, Ione the 1st, Witch Hunt, Wild Arboretum, Council Crest Cache, Attack of the Clones,Fight the Future, and River View.
Other caches very near the loop trail system include: Whistle While You Cache, Proposals, Das Butte, Inspiration Point, all the Springwater Corridor caches and the first stop of the Low-Medium-High cache. If you plan your trips right, you can hike from one cache to the next. With a little help from fellow Portland area Geocachers, we could eventually have a cache every couple of miles on this loop system!
Update: 2/27/2005 Did some cache maintenance today and the cache is back in action! We dried it out, added new stuff including Oregon Geocoin #325. It is also back close to the monument where we originally hid it years ago. We updated the hint and cache description accordingly.
Update: 3/29/2002 The cache has been cleaned out and resupplied. Thanks to those who mentioned it needed TLC. Others should feel free to clean out this cache as needed of wet stuff or garbage! We moved it to a new hiding spot that is not quite as visible but in the same general area.
