Geocache Description:

Canoe and Kayak Songbird Cache Series...

The Related Web Page has more information on each bird complete with their song in hopes that you will be able to hear, spot and identify some of the birds you will see. Eagles and Osprey are often seen around all these caches along with beaver, otter, deer and moose and more so keep watch for them.

Contact the cache owners VicBiker or Lacy for kayak buddy, we would be happy to join you if we're available.

This series of caches has been placed in and around Abbot on bodies of water Primarially designed for Canoe and Kayak paddling. Much of these areas are very rocky and difficult at best for a motorized craft.

They are designed to bring you to some interesting places we paddle and hopefully discover some of natures wonders along the way. Each bird has its own bird house where you’ll find a log inside a film canister and the perch of each house is actually a pencil which can be used for signing the cache log. Most of these caches will require getting out of the watercraft, so proper footwear is required, as the terrain may be wet, muddy, or in some areas bushy with thorns, depending on the time of year.

The caches placed on the Piscataquis River can be done in one of two ways, depending on a person’s desires. They may be done by going down the river from the green bridge in
Abbot 45 11.197/69 26.775,
or upriver from the public boat launch in
Guilford 45 10.038/69 24.189.
A vehicle at both ends is another possibility.

The caches on Mananock Pond may also be done from either end of the pond as there is parking available at both ends.

There is ample parking on the Harlow Pond road, where the road passes between the two ponds . This is also the parking area for the caches placed on Harlow Pond and is the only public parking for those caches 45 08.650/69 23.141.
The other location for doing the Mananock Pond caches is at the

Sangerville public boat launch 45 09.360/69 21.349, which is located behind the town recreational area.
A vehicle at both locations would be a good choice for doing these caches if you plan on doing them all in a day. Parking co-ordinates have been provided for all parking options.

A lot of thought and work has gone into placing this series of caches and we hope you will enjoy finding them as much, as we did placing them. This series of caches has been placed with the intentions they be done from the water, as much of the land is Private Property. A canoe or kayak will be needed to reach some of the caches as the water can be quite SHALLOW at times.

We want to CAUTION everyone that at times the upper section of the Picataquis River can be quite dangerous for inexperience paddlers. These times include early spring and after heavy rains, so please check conditions before venturing onto the river from the Abbot end.
The Guilford end is usually quite calm, except at times of extreme flooding. The cache owners are always willing to paddle with you if we are available and you so desire, as we never tire of these waters.

MOST OF ALL WE WANT YOU TO HAVE HAPPY AND SAFE PADDLING AND CACHING
