Geocache Description:

Everyone, Mark your calendars once again!!!!!! October the 16th, 17th, and 18th 2009, is the “Big” Geocaching Weekend Event in Hazard City/Perry County, Kentucky in Eastern, Kentucky for the fourth year in a row.

The event is going to be called “The Hazard City/Perry County Tour IV.” I, Kentucky Trio, and other members of The Big Sandy Area Geocachers, are working with The Hazard City/Perry County Department of Tourism to host this “Big “ weekend event and would like to invite and welcome any and all geocachers to this big event!!!!!.

We currently have 190-200 caches in Hazard and Perry County at this time and will have more, which will become permanent on October the 16th, 2009. There will not be any temporary caches this year for the event. These caches will be located throughout Hazard City and Perry County.
Perry County was formed in 1821. It is located in the Eastern Coal Field region of the state. The elevation in the county ranges from 700 to 2520 feet above sea level. In 2000 the county population was 29,390 in a land area of 342.15 square miles, an average of 85.9 people per square mile. The county seat is Hazard. Perry County is a long county with a lot of distance in between the two ends. These 85-90 caches are located around some places of historical significance to Perry County and Hazard City as well as other places of significance, interest and/or scenic areas so bring your cameras to take a lot of pictures. Our new caches will also be located around some places of historical significance to Perry County and Hazard City as well as other places of significance, interest and/or scenic areas.

We are once again having an event t-shirt for the event which will be different than the three previous years. There will be a small entrance fee for a geocaching team of $15.00. Example; a family that goes by one name will just pay $15.00 or a bunch of cachers that want to get together to form a team, will pay $15.00 Each paying team will be provided with two t-shirts and any additional t-shirts will be at an extra cost. We are going to try and do some things the same and some a little differently. If you have any questions, comments, and/or concerns, please feel free to email me at rmm879@windstream.net.

We are planning on having coin this year see picture of coin on cache page). The coins have just arrived, Wednesday, October the 14th, 2009. We are also planning on having some pathtags, pins, and other event swag we will be giving away this year.

The coins will be $8.50 each. Pathtags will be $2.00 each or 4 for $5.00. We will have a coin and one of the pathtags as a combo for $10.00.

******The coordinates listed are for the start of the event and are the same coordinates as the first event held in October of 2006. Remember, the cost for the registration is $15.00 per geocaching team. You may preregister online or at the event the same cost of $15.00 but we would prefer that you notify us before the night of the event so that we will know approximately how many to expect in attendance.

Also, please post on the event page that you will be attending.

October is a great time of the year, especially here in the mountains. Leaves are changing colors, wildlife is stirring, the air is cool, not real hot, and the nights can get really cold. While here for this event, we do not want you to just cache but enjoy the scenery, wildlife, and what the mountains of Eastern KY has to offer.

Join us to tour a part of the state which is part of “The Unbridled Spirit.”

Keep checking back to this website caching page as I will add details and updates, modify the cache page, and list other events that will be going on this same weekend. as this event is still being planned, as they become available.

For those of you that do not have a laptop computer, be sure to bring your USB cable support so that we may or you can download all of the coordinates for the permanent and temporary caches to your GPS for you.
