[no] Vættaheia var en del av det landsomfattende
nettverket av veter som ble brukt til varsling fra Lindesnes til
Vardø. I tillegg til dekning langs kysten strakte det seg
forgreininger inn fjordene og oppover dalene. Vetene bestod som
regel av ferdigoppsatte stokker av 3-4 meters lengde, satt sammen i
en ring og som kunne tennes raskt. De ble plassert på godt synlige
høyder i terrenget, og det måtte være sikt til neste punkt i
systemet. Vættaheia fikk signal fra Kamsheia på Agdeneset og gikk
innover fjorden til
Vardheia mellom Rissa og Stadsbygd.
Til å vedlikeholde og passse vetene ble det utnevnt personer som
bodde så nært at de kunne nå dem på kort tid. Sannsynligvis bodde
vakta for Vættaheia i Hambåra, en bosetting ikke langt unna den
nedlagte tunnelen. I ufredstider var vetene bemannet og systemet
var da så effektivt at det tok under et døgn å sende et varsel fra
Lindesnes til Vardø.
Systemet var en del av det norske forsvaret i over 900 år. På
veien opp vitner rester av forsvarsinstallasjoner om strategisk
betydning som følge av den gunstige beliggenheten.
Vættaheia er en del av Kjentmannsmerket i Agdenes 2009/2010 og
Kommunekampen 2009, 2010
Cachen ligger litt utenfor selve topp-punktet. Selve turen opp kan
nok ta et sted mellom 30 minutter og en time.
[en] Vættaheia was a part of a national warning network
where big fires were used to send an alarm across the country from
Lindesnes to Vardø. The network covered the costline and branched
into the fjords and up the valleys. The fires were built from logs
of 3-4 meeters length, assembled into a cone, in a way that could
easily light. They were placed on hills visible from a distance and
with a good overview of the area and with view to the next point in
the system. Vættaheia got its signal from Kamsheia at Agdeneset and
sent its signal to
Vardheia across the fjord, between Rissa and Stadsbygd.
There were named guards to maintain the fireplaces. They lived
close to the point and could reach there in short time. For
Vættaheia it is plausible that the guard lived on a small
settlement, Hambåra, near the closed tunnel. In times of war the
fireplaced were maned at all times so it was possible to send an
alert from Lindesnes to Vardø in less than 24 hours.
The system was a part of the norwegain defences for more than
900 years. On the way up to the point you will see remains of
military installations that is a witness of the strategic means of
this point. When you reach the top the strategic means of this
point is obvious as you will see far into the ocean and deep into
the fjord from this point.
Vættaheia is a part of the local "Kjentmannsmerket 2009/2010 in
Agdenes" and "Kommunekampen
2009, 2010". The cache is placed a short distance from the top of
the hill. It will take between half an hour and an hour to walk up
from the tunnel.
