This is the 14th cache of a series called "Cache to Eagle" which highlights Eagle Service Projects by the Boy Scouts of the Scenic Trails Council. Caches 11 through 15 are located in counties which make up the Bay Trails District. Scouts, please remember to follow the Leave No Trace guidelines when looking for geocaches.
This Eagle Project was completed by Cullen Lane of Troop 45 in Fife Lake, MI on April 26, 2010. Cullen did his Eagle Project for South Boardman Township. He helped to build a nature trail by building a lookout to view the Boardman River. He also put down woodchips on the trail, installed benches, trimming trees, and building a message board.
This cache is a camo covered container which contains some patches and 1 of 5 “Founders of Scouting” cards. The Founder of Scouting in this cache is Daniel Carter Beard. Scouts from the Scenic Trails Council can turn in 1 of the 5 possible cards to their troop to get the Geocaching patch puzzle piece of the Scenic Trails 100th Anniversary Patch. The first 6 scouts from each district to turn in all 5 Founders cards to the council office with the answers to the questions on each card will get a special patch.
For 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has helped youth become more than they ever thought possible. And we’ll continue that journey into the next century. The Boy Scout program in the US began in 1910 and currently is open to boys ages 11-18. Boys learn and grow through the experiences of camping, hiking, building projects, and community service. Scouting fosters self-esteem, a sense of value and belonging, a sense of accountability, and teamwork. It’s also a lot of fun! The skills learned in Scouting help young men overcome obstacles and challenges with courage and character throughout their lives. Geocaching offers a new opportunity for the Boy Scouts to experience the outdoors while honing their Scouting skills. This cache is placed in honor Eagle Scouts and to highlight their Eagle projects and community service.
