You are given a choice of routes that you can take. One route
(Tortoise) is a slow and steady route that is not as physical but
is a little longer. The other route (Hare) is for the ones of us
that are impatient and do not mind a more challenging route. Both
routes can be reached by using the trails in the area, but they do
a lot of twisting and turning. When you get to the waypoint for
your chosen route, you will be looking for a clue cache (see
picture below) which has the coordinates to the final cache written
on it.
This area in the knobs of central Kentucky is owned by Hardin
County. It is being developed into a mountain bike and hiking
area.
This cache is designed to be physical, you will have to use your
skills in navigating to find the best way to the cache. At the very
least, you will be hiking 2 plus miles round trip. You may have to
put your GPSR around your neck and use both hands in areas. You
will be following trails in sections and going it alone in others.
The cache is large and stuffed with lots of goodies to reward you
after the grueling hike. You will not need climbing gear or a rope,
but you might end up with dirt under your nails. GOOD LUCK
The cache is a large ammo box with an official Geocache sticker
on it. There are also several ready-made micro caches contained in
the cache. Fill free to take one of these caches and locate it
somewhere in the area and post it with your own clever name. Keep
in mind, that micros are hard to find in a wooded area, so you
might want to place them in a spot that will be relatively easy to
find.
The coordinates above are for the parking area.
It is best to start off on the trail that begins at the tunnel.
Pick your route from these coordinates:
Tortoise: N37*42.540 W085*44.219
Hare: N37*42.700 W085*44.129
If you have any energy left you my want to try the Waste Not
