Geocache Description:

Another in a series of caches in Pinnacle Park. Assuming you go to the top this is a 6.5 mile round-trip hike.

Most of my caches are either very short strolls or micros. I have always wanted to place some caches that would take folks to great views along beautiful terrains. Pinnacle Park is such a hike. About 6.5 miles round-trip it is much easier on the return hike. The views at the top are well worth the effort!

Since my GPSr wasn't getting much of a signal I made this an offset cache (which winds up as a multi since there is no "offset" category). The coordinates above take you to a "broken-heart" rock. Walk just past the rock and take the rock trail on the right up until you reach a vertical tree that is resting on the broken-heart rock. The cache can be found under a rock near the base of that tree.

Cache is Tupperware-ish 2" X 5" X 5" and full of the usual. Please sign the log and let me know how the hike is going so far.

Directions To The Top: From Exit 85 off U.S. 23/74 in Sylva, drive east on U.S. 23/74 for 0.5 mi., turn left on Steeple Rd. for 0.2 mi. until dead end at Old Asheville Hwy., turn left, continue for 0.6 mi., turn right on Fisher Creek Rd., continue for 5 mi. until dead end at park entrance. (Parking Coordinates: N 35° 25.351 W 083° 11.472) Hike straight up trail behind iron gate. When trail forks, take left fork, continuing on main trail. Trail branches again about two-thirds of the way up. Take left fork again, bearing 90 degrees, and continue to a small plateau surrounded by trees. Trail turns left again, heading out Pinnacle Ridge. Best views are a little further out from N 35° 25.765 W 83° 12.048. The main trail sort of ends here so look for a thin trail heading a little left and down. Keep going as far as you want. The views can be amazing!
