The cache box is very small and only
contains a log. It has a habit of moving- I blame the ghost
of the man who died here. If for some reason you don't get a
chance to sign the logbook, I will accept an email with the
person who died there and the date the historic marker was
placed as proof of a find.
The title of this cache is a play on a book title we heard about
on NPR about intersting "pop culture" sights in the country. This
sight is more historical than pop.
Tired of taking I-95 between Washington, DC and Richmond, VA? As
a change of pace get on US HWY 301 and just up the hill from the
intersection with Hwy 17 is a great place to stop and relive
history. While the actual spot is nothing to write home about the
fact that you took the time to visit the spot is a story to share
with anyone who will listen to you. Makes a great cocktail
conversation! Bet you didn't know that this place is still around
and not built over as farm tracts become housing tracts.
The cache is located at the end of the trail so follow the signs
to the trail. Recently someone (group?) added some great historical
info near cache. The cache is in a location that is visited often
just not regularly so please rehide the container better/or as well
as you found it. Please do not ruin the surprise of this cache by
naming the historical figure who died here. Feel free to email me
with any thoughts.
How do you get there from here? You will want to be on HWY 301
NORTH in order to have a nice place to park.
The coordinates to the parking area are: N 38 08.425 / W 077
13.690
If you are traveling south there is a U-turn about .25 miles
past the coordinates that will get you on to the Northbound side.
There is a gravel area in which about 10 cars can park off of the
right shoulder. Returning Southbound there is a U-turn about 1 mile
north of the parking.
