Geocache Description:

The Cekin’s castle stands near the city centre at the edge of park Tivoli in a beautiful natural setting. Originally a palace built in the 17th century stood here and a baroque mansion was build later in 1720 by a count Leopold Karel Lamberg according to plans of architect Fiscer Erlach who followed the example of Austrian castles. The baroque painted walls, the ceiling and two decorative stoves placed inside the mansion gave the elegance and ceremonity therefore the suburban baroque mansion was primarily designed for social events, dance and merriment. The mansion was originally named by the owner - the Lamberger castle. After the death of his son Lamberger his widow married the Austrian equestrian captain Lovro Szogenyem. The Hungarian name was finally translated to Cekin’s Castle by the inhabitants of Ljubljana. Interestingly, in an era when the castle was owned by Sigmund Pagliaruzzi during academic year 1818-1819 a famous Slovenian poet France Prešeren also lived in the castle as a teacher of Sigmund’s children. The next owner of the castle was the family Kozler. Its member Peter Kozler was a lawyer and a geographer and has produced the first map of the Slovenian territory. Since 1955, the castle was housing the Museum of National Liberation and the Museum of National Revolution of Slovenia. Today this is a home of the Museum of Contemporary History of Slovenia with its permanent and temporary exhibitions for a period of recent history since the early 20th century.
