Just opened in the Fall of 2008, the Morris Thompson Cultural and
Visitors Center will provide visitor information, exhibits, a
theatre, an artisans' workshop and demonstration area, a cultural
and environmental education classroom, and a store featuring
educational materials and Alaska Native art.
The Center is home to the following partnering
organizations:
* Alaska Geographic Store
* Alaska Public Lands Information Center (APLIC)
* Fairbanks Convention and Visitors Bureau (FCVB)
* Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) cultural programs
* Denakkanaaga, the regional Alaska Native Elder's organization
The Center will be the gateway to experiencing the grandeur of
Interior Alaska. Located on the banks of the Chena River in
downtown Fairbanks, this new facility will celebrate our land and
the people who live here. It will educate residents and visitors
about our natural and cultural history, and inspire them to go out
and explore all that Fairbanks and the Interior has to offer.
The cache is accessible from the parking lot or the sidewalk in
front of the center. It is just a small cache with only a log. I
have placed this cache so that visitors can grab the cache even if
they only have a few hours in Fairbanks and are dependent on tour
buses to get around. This can be a very popular and busy area so
use extreme caution with grabbing the cache.
