Geocache Description:

Near the top of Coyote Grade is a sand quarry where hundreds of cliff swallows nest.

Sedimentary sandstone makes a perfect nesting ground for cliff swallows. They gather here by the hundreds. Late afternoon is an ideal time to visit, with the added bonus of great views into the Snake River valley below.

Geologically, these sandy sediments (between layers of basalt) are about 14 million years old: the Miocene Epoch of the Cenozoic Era. (The dinosaurs died off 65 MYA after the Jurassic Epoch of the Mesozoic Era.)

Coyote Grade was one of the original routes up from the river valley, gaining about 1850’ in five miles.
From highway 12, turn N @ N46 26.807 W116 50.360, 0.7 miles east of the US 95 junction.
From highway 95, go east through Genesee or choose one of several interesting roads to the grade.

To log this cache, email me the number of moving sections of the quarry gate.
