Geocache Description:

Located in Palmetto State Park, TX

An ammo can hidden off the main hiking trail in the park, which
contains "the usual" (fun toys, notepad, pencils). Enjoy hiking the
main 1-1/4 mile trail in the park as you search for this cache.

Many of the largest trees in Palmetto State Park are now nothing
but stumps, the result of a terrible flood that happened October
17, 1998. A hybrid storm system, part baroclinic and part tropical,
developed during the early morning of October 17, 1998.

An upper-level low dug from the Pacific Northwest to near the "four
corners" area. A cold front ahead of it looped across west Texas
from near Childress southwest across Midland during the early
morning hours of the 17th. For the entire history of the flood, go here:

All of Palmetto State Park recreation area was completely inundated, but the headquarters building at the entrance wasn't. A very large pavilion building built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s had water on its roof. (That's about 50' above normal water level for the San Marcos river.) .

Although the park personnel could not find the "official" form, I left a copy of my own form with Park Ranger Dorothy Baker. Please support out parks by paying the entrance fee before searching for this cache.
