Geocache Description:

This is the oldest  city owned building in Springfield Missouri.  It is a very historical building with character and charm.

Permission was granted by Corporal Rob Schroeder of the Springfield Police Department.

This geocache is located at the Old City Jail or Old Calaboose in downtown Springfield just southwest of Park Central Square. This is the oldest property that is owned and maintained by the city of Springfield, MO.  It was erected in 1891 as the city’s first jail. The property was restored in 1999 and has since been placed on the Historical Registry. The renovations rescued the building from decay.  In the past it has been used as a police substation but now offers a police museum on the first floor. It is open on First Friday Art Walk nights from 6 PM to 8PM for tours.

The architecture of the building is a mix of Palladian influenced Greek Revival and  classic Roman characteristics. It measures only 26’ x 26’. It is nestled between a business and a parking garage to the west where there is free parking.
