Every 100 Years the numbers align and make people that have a
numbers fixation smile - This is that year!
In this Year of the Pig, we wanted to bring you an event that will
test your mettle - stretch your patience - make you question
friendships - cause cats & dogs to love one another - Yes,
It's the 07-07-07 EVENT ! ! !
!
Strangely enough, this date falls on a Saturday and gives us good
reason to make a Geocaching event out of it - Ready for the
fun?
If you have ever watched CBS' "The Amazing Race" you will
understand what you are about to endure. Seven (7) Stages
spread across 3 Counties and miles of blacktop will have you
questioning, "Is it worth it?"
THE GAME:
Each team will be comprised of no less than 2 members and no more
than 4 members, unless those members are children (this will be
referred to as the "5 Brown Bears" Rule). Children are
defined in this game as 12 years or younger. You will need at
least 2 members to complete tasks and safely navigate through the
Treasure Valley. At a minimum one member must be able to
legally drive & at least one team member must have a valid
geocaching account on Geocaching.com.
The day will start with you receiving your Stage One envelope -
this will direct you to the Stage One coordinates and what you need
to do.
Each stage will consist of a task or tasks to be completed before
moving on to the next stage - If there are multiple tasks offered
in a stage, you may be asked to pick one (1) member of your team to
compete and then choose one task to complete. You may also
have tasks that can utilize the whole team - you will know what to
do when you receive your envelope for each stage.
Once a stage is completed, you will receive an envelope with the
coordinates to the next stage and any instructions - Hang on to all
envelopes & their contents!!!!!! You may need them for
reference or other information down the road.
Following Stage Seven is the FINAL STAGE - When you find this
stage, grab the top envelope and then replace the Stage exactly as
you found it - anyone found assisting another team during this
stage will be disqualified - NO EXCEPTIONS! The first seven
envelopes will be labeled in sequential order "FIRST TO FIND" thru
"SEVENTH" and the rest will be labeled "07-07-07 FINISHER".
Bring the envelope you grabbed to the 07-07-07 dinner
location.
THE
SCHEDULE:
We will start by having breakfast at Perkins in Caldwell at 0600
hours (6:00 A.M.) - the coordinates to this event is the Perkins'
Parking Lot- The restaurant has been kind enough to offer up a
buffet for those that want to indulge and fill their tanks before
spending the day at our pleasure. Adults are $8.99 & Kids
are $5.99 - The buffet should include eggs, pancakes, sausage,
bacon, hash browns & a beverage.
You will register your team by letting us know what individuals are
on your team and who are valid vehicle drivers. Each driver
on the team must give his valid state driver's license to a
volunteer to be sealed in an envelope. The envelope will then
be handed back to the owner. (see RULES section about this
activity)
At 0630 hours (6:30 A.M.) the Rules will be read aloud so that if
there are any questions, they can be answered at this time.
Any other questions also need to be asked at this time -
Contact phone numbers will be given out for players to be able to
contact organizers during the day.
At approximately 0700 hours (7:00 A.M.) Stage One envelopes will be
handed out - DO NOT OPEN THESE! You will be disqualified
should you open your envelope.
At exactly 0707 hours (7:07 A.M.) MDT on your GPSr clock the game
begins - you may open your envelope at this time and begin Stage
One.
All Stages during the day have a one (1) hour window in which they
are available - should you miss that window, you may join us at the
07-07-07 Dinner coordinates for the winner's awards but you will
have not finished.
STAGE TIMES - (all times will be based off of your GPSr time)
Stage One: 0800 to 0900 hours
Stage Two: 0930 to 1030 hours
Stage Three: 1100 to 1200 hours
Stage Four: 1230 to 1330 hours
Stage Five: 1400 to 1500 hours
Stage Six: 1500 to 1600
hours
Stage Seven: 1600 to 1700 hours
Final Stage: 1600 to 1900 hours
07-07-07 Dinner & Awards starts at 1907 hours (7:07 P.M.)
THE
RULES:
1) This is meant to be fun but you still must act
like respectable adults at the appropriate times & places when
necessary. Remember, YOU and YOUR TEAM are representing the
Geocaching community. Please bring lots of energy, a good
sense of humor and the spirit of adventure & competition with
you.
2) All state, city &
county laws, traffic laws, park rules & regulations and any
other normal regulations will be followed. If you are caught
breaking any of these, you will be disqualified.
3) Should you make it to a Stage prior to it opening, line up
in an orderly manner at the coordinates on your instructions and
please wait patiently. Everyone volunteering for this event
is just that, a VOLUNTEER. Anyone caught or reported to be
giving a volunteer a bad time, verbally or physically abusing them
will be disqualified and asked to leave.
4) All times during this event are based off of
your GPS receivers time which should be set to Mountain Daylight
Time (MDT) - this is considered -0600 GMT. Any disputes on
time will be referred to the GPSr time & are the final decision
of the 07-07-07 volunteer.
5) Once a stage has closed, that is it - it is no
longer available and we invite you to meet us at the 07-07-07
Dinner location (These coordinates will be in your Stage One
envelope). Should you get to a Stage just prior to it
closing, you will be given ample time to complete the task, just
know that you will be burning time you may need at the next
Stage.
6) Should you get to a Stage with multiple tasks,
you will be required to state to the Stage Volunteer which task you
would like to complete. If after attempting the Stage Task
for one minute you decide to change tasks, you will be assessed a
77 second penalty. Once the 77 seconds has passed, you will
be allowed to start the new task. If after one minute on the
new task you decide to change back, you will be assessed another 77
second penalty. At no time will you be allowed to change whom
you picked to complete the task for any given Stage.
7) Stage Seven has a special time penalty -
should you not be able to meet a particular part of the task you
will be assessed a 5 minute penalty. At this Stage you will
be notified again of this penalty prior to starting the Task.
It will be a 5 minute penalty for each infraction.
8) AT NO TIME SHALL YOU,
YOUR TEAM OR YOUR ACTIONS HINDER THE PROGRESS OF ANOTHER TEAM -
THIS WILL DISQUALIFY YOU.
9) Bring plenty of water - This is July in Idaho.
Bring snacks - you may not have time to even pull through the
drive-thru at McDonalds so have something to munch on while you are
driving.
10) By
playing or attending this event, you will not hold Geocaching.com,
the event volunteers, and the Society of Wicked Cachers liable for
any damage, accidents or injuries incurred during the event.
We aren't doing anything dangerous and we just want to have
fun.
11) All entrants must have
submitted a "Will Attend" note to the cache page no later than 2359
hours (11:59 P.M.) on Thursday, June 28, 2007. In your note, tell
us who you will be teaming up with & your team name (optional);
we also need to know how many will be eating the breakfast buffet @
Perkins. Anyone posting a "Will Attend" after this time will
not be guaranteed a spot in the event. Contact us through the
cache page profile should you attempt to register after the
deadline to see if you will be able to play. Sorry, but the
deadline is necessary to setup everything properly.
12) COST TO
PLAY: We are requiring each individual on a team bring
one item they would like to find in a geocache to pay for
registration at the breakfast meeting - these items will be the
prizes at the 07-07-07 Dinner. If you want to bring more than
one item great - also, cache containers from size small to large
are acceptable for payment as long as they include a log and a
writing utensil.
13) All members of the team must be at the Stage
Table for each Stage to begin - no member is allowed to sit in the
vehicle waiting unless they are a child or due to special
circumstances. Log books will be at the breakfast, at each
Stage & at the dinner so you will be able to claim this
Geo-Event - ALL VIRTUAL LOGS WILL BE DELETED!
EQUIPMENT:
1) Good working vehicle w/ a full tank of gas
2) Good working GPS receiver (yes, this includes
Magellans)
3) Drinking water
4) Snacks
5) Proper attire for Urban / Suburban Geocaching
in July, including good shoes
6) Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
7) Pair of gloves for each member of your team
(who knows?)
8) Sense of Humor; Adventurous Spirit & the
Ability to have Fun
UPDATE - June 11, 2007
Today's Update is about what needs to be in your "Will Attend" log
- we have a lot of information we need to pull this off so please
follow this format. When you post your 'Will Attend', please
include the other cachers on your team, your team name, how many
will be eating at the breakfast & how many will be eating at
the dinner.
The breakfast is at the start @ Perkins in Caldwell off of Exit 29
(Information is current on the cache page). The dinner will be held
at Smoky Mountain Pizza in Park Center (415 E. Park Center, Boise)
from 6pm to 9pm (or whenever we leave). In an effort to make the
dinner affordable, I have decided to go with the Grand Italian on
their catering menu which works out to $11.25 / person - $5.63 /
kid under 12 ($8.99 / person + 6% tax + 18% gratuity - kids under
12 are 50%)- this includes an assortment of 18" pizzas, spaghetti
w/ meatballs and marinara sauce, house or caesar salad, garlic
bread & soft drink. I need an accurate count for dinner for two
reasons: 1) how big a room we need & 2) how much food we
actually need. Note: A full bar is available at this
establishment.
So here is a sample log for a 'Will Attend' -
06/11/07 - Will
Attend
Chooch72 & Mrs. Chooch72
will be attending the event with Seamonsters in the Mist on our
team - our team name is "Monster Train" - 2 for breakfast - 1 for
dinner (Mrs. Chooch72 has to work)
Thanx
This is all we need in your log - I know this is long but we need
this information. Thanx and hope to see all of you at the
event!!
UPDATE #2 - 06/25/07
1) The deadline is still 6/28/07 for team signups - one note to
make; if you sign up and give a number for attendees to the dinner
and that changes I need an email immediately. We are fiscally
responsible for the number of plates at the dinner. I can tell the
restaurant the morning of 7/6/07 if the number changes but if
someone doesn't show on Saturday, the volunteers will be
responsible for paying (that means me). Please keep us up to
date.
2) A question
was asked about team numbers - declare the number & names of
members you will have on your team no matter their arrival time. If
Cacher A declares a team with Cacher B & Cacher C but Cacher B
has to go to work and only does 3 stages, the team still consists
of 3 cachers, the other 2 just finish on their own. In the same
light, if not all of your team is at the start but will catch up
later in the day, they will go toward your 4 member team limit. For
example Cacher Z claims a 4 man team with Cacher Y, X & W but
Cacher X won't be on the team until Stage 4, that is
fine.
3) The shiny objects are here -
they are available to purchase only by finishers of the event at
this time. They will be limited to one per team member at $7 each.
They can be purchased at the finish dinner. They are (I think) the
first Idaho Event coin ever made. They are not trackable but
numbered from 20 - 99.
UPDATE #3 - June 27, 2007
Received a box from Groundspeak
today - means we are a Groundspeak sponsored event! Yeah!! - so now
there is some
more swag for the prize pool. Thanx a bunch
Signal!!!!
Update #4
June 28 -
1:30PM
Quick note -
seems to be some confusion so let me clear it up -
1) Teams need to be 2 - 4 members in size (Read the first
paragraph under 'The Game' on the cache page)
2) If you
cannot find a team, post that you will be attending and are looking
for a team. We'll hook up all the people that are looking for a
team with other teams or other singles, but we'll find you a team.
Who knows, your mutley crew of new geocaching friends made that
morning may take first place....
FINAL
NOTE:
This page is subject to change & will change often -
please place this event on your WATCHLIST so that when I post a
note about changes, you will be
notified.
