The cache is located along the Maple Trail, blazed light blue. The
trail is hard packed earth, excellent for hiking. No hunting is
permitted in the park, so it's a great place to hike during hunting
season.
This cache is modeled after one placed by skyraider, who
introduced me to the hobby in the summer of 2007. His cache,
How's your luck, was the 5th one I completed, and I admired the
way it was set up. Anyone familiar with that cache will recognize
the similarity to this one. You have the choice of two trailheads
with parking near each one. The first stage is a 3 ounce round Lock
& Lock containing the coordinates for the final. It is located
right next to the trail at the base of a double trunked tree,
covered by a rock. If your starting point was the trailhead on
Washington School Road, the tree will be on your left. The tree is
on your right if you started from the trailhead on Shepard Valley
Road. If you get lucky and pick the right trailhead, you will
simply backtrack the same way you came to find the final, a .30
caliber ammo box. If not, you will be in for a longer hike.
Selecting the right trailhead will make your hike slightly under
1.5 miles. Choosing the wrong one will make it about a mile
longer.
Stay on the trail until reaching your destination. The final is
approximately 200 feet off the trail.
