This Loop Trail cache can be done by crossing either on the north or south bridge.
As you approach the Loop Trail cache, you may notice that the path is relatively straight and slightly elevated.
In 1890 the Tacoma-Lake City Railway was put into place. It carried people from the hill above Old Town (26th Street) to a resort on American Lake. In 1897 the business failed and the tracks were removed.
At the cache site you will find a Madrona with a hole in the trunk. If you look at the backside you will see that it has been burned. In spite of this, it is still alive, receiving enough nutrients from the remaining trunk to support growth. Some think it was hit by lightning, but no one knows for sure.
TO FIND THIS CACHE, look through the hole and you will see where the cache is under an object.
Enjoy your walk!
