Totternhoe Knolls & Quarry both date back to before the
12th Century. The Knolls, once a Motte & Bailey & The
Quarry remains of Stone Mines & Spoil heaps of Ancient
workings. It is said that some of the stone work of Westminster
Abbey is made from Totternhoe Stone. Home to rare orchids and
butterflies, the area is currently the centre point of a local
restoration campaign, to save it from neglect. More can be found on
the subject here.
Other local places of Interest include Dunstable Downs, which are
home to Bedfordshires highest point & a visitor centre. Enjoy
your visit and Please take care at the cache site. Dan &

Time for a small update
(19/11/03):- It became obvious after 'Simply Paul' visited the
area, and logged a conclusive no-find, that the local cleanup
or the quarry and nature reserve was/is well underway, and
that the the wrecked car which the cache had been hidden in
had been removed. Many signs can now be seen warning off
motorists and the area is looking a lot more tranquille! The
picture on the left was taken during my latest visit and can
be enlarged by clicking on it. Obviously I have placed a new
cache close by the origonal site and added some new coords and
a new clue. Things are a little more difficult now ;) bring
some shoes with good gripping soles! So once again there is a
cache for you to find here, don't miss out, go get it! and
whilst your at it why not combine your trip with a visit to
Pharisee's latest hide, which is just a mile or so away (click
nearest caches for more details!).
